THE HOBBIT HOME
In honor of the newly released movie The Hobbit, I thought it would be timely to display visually inspiring images of storybook cottages and hobbit homes. It’s also the middle of December here in Seattle and the winter has set in. All I want to do is get cozy and daydream by a warm fire. With the holidays upon us, I thought it fit to emphasize that the HOME is where the heart is.
This Hobbit House looks like its straight out of a faerie tale and one would expect little gnomes to be wondering around picking berries. I’ve been watching the television series Once Upon a Time and this little house would fit in perfectly. It represents an imaginative place where elves come alive to assist you on your sojourn through the magical forest.
Stumbling upon this storybook cottage in the woods is when Snow White discovers the feeling of being home for the first time. Home is where we rest our heads at night and dream. It is the ultimate refuge from the hustle and bustle of the real world. It is our soft place to land.
If I could imagine the perfect woodland cottage, it would have to be the one painted above nestled in the woods by a flowing creek. It would be surrounded by forests and trees and have fresh flowers hanging in window baskets and the smell of wood burning in the fireplace. It would have big arched windows and hand crafted wood molding. The walls would be painted in a nice Tuscany shade with amber beaded lamps glowing within. It would house all of my vintage treasures and tell a story upon every turn.
The light would shine brightly opening the morning rays.
allow your plants to hang wherever they may
warm blankets and books and musical instruments could fall array
let dream catchers dangle in your windows and capture the new day
grow grass on your rooftop
and paint your front door bright blue
listen to the silence
and breath in the cool, crisp air
use bold colors like purple and red
peer out your windows into the magical forest right outside your front door
and allow the vines to crawl and be free
nestling into the Earth’s ground
carving out a stone
retreating into nature
listening to your inner voice
This is what Hobbits do
This dreamy cottage is a perfect size for two
a woodland hideaway to rest and regroup
a place to quiet the mind
a place to remind you of your purpose in life
build a home with your bare hands
adding all of your personal charm to your domain
allow your inner elf to come alive
own your own creativity
and listen when your inner child speaks
grow a garden
plant tulips and daffodils and gladiolas in your front yard
dream your home into being
let it grow with you
plant your hearts desire and watch the seeds grow
color your world in the simplest ways
your home is a reflection of you no matter who you are
live your life to the fullest
keep it simple
paint your wood shutters red
a forgotten pastoral dreamland
within a Thomas Kinkade painting
enveloped in the Emerald Valley
explore the textures of your vast being
and perch yourself inside your heart
and dare to dream
